Working With a Small Bathroom

One of the biggest problems that a lot of homeowners have is how to decorate rooms that are small. This is often an issue in the bathroom because things like sinks and toilets can take up precious space in a small area. Additionally, these fixtures cannot simply be moved like furniture can in another room. However, there are some great, easy decorating tips that can help you make a small bathroom seem much larger.

Use Light Color Paint
The first tip for decorating a small bathroom is to choose a lighter paint color for the walls. Soft colors give the illusion of more space, so choose these hues for the main parts of your bathroom like the walls or tiles. If you want to have bright, bold colors present, choose them for the towels or smaller details.

Mirrors & Lighting
Another great way to add the illusion of space is to use mirrors and extra lighting in a small bathroom. These things are usually put into the walls or ceilings so they won’t take up any additional space and they give the effect of a larger room by opening it up. The mirrors will also pick up the color and patterns you have in the bathroom.

Glass Shower Doors
Installing a glass shower door instead of a curtain will also make a small bathroom seem more open and give your eye the ability to pan over the entire space without being obstructed by something so opaque. Another great trick is to add details that will keep you looking up, like shelves placed higher on the wall or special details on the ceiling. This will make your small bathroom seem much larger than it truly is, giving the illusion of space.
